How to sponser Damian
Running a marathon is hard enough. But running the equivalent of nearly 6 marathons in 7 days – and in temperatures exceeding 40°C whilst carrying a KIT BAG as well has got to be the most gruelling event ever invented.
The event actually exists and is called the Marathon des Sables – and this year Tenon Partitions’ Product Manager Damian Hill is taking part in aid of MENCAP.
Damian set off to Morocco on 26 March to prepare for the run of his life over the Sahara Dessert. Known as the world’s toughest self-sufficient foot race, the Marathon des Sables is split over a 7 day period as follows:
- Day 1 – 28km
- Day 2 – 35km
- Day 3 – 38km
- Day 4 – 72km
- Day 5 – Rest Day!
- Day 6 – 42.2km
- Day 7 – 11.8km
In all a total of 227km, or approximately 142 miles in searing temperatures. But that is not all. Damian also has to run with a heavy back pack containing all his food, a sleeping bag, first aid kit, clothing and water. In fact water is rationed to ONLY 9 LITRES PERDAY!!
Damian has been training for months, completing various endurance runs in the UK. But nothing can prepare you for actually running the event in the Sahara.
All this effort and commitment is in aid of Damian's chosen charity, MENCAP, the charity that works with both adults and children with learning difficulties, plus their families and carers. Damian has pledged to raise £6,500 for this great cause, but has also set a personal target of £10,000.
With the help of family, friends, colleagues, suppliers and customers, Damian is edging towards his first target. But EVERY DONATION will make a difference, no matter how small or large. So please help Damian achieve his goal.
